Dr. James Cosgrove
Dr. James Cosgrove returned to his hometown after graduating from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. After working at Allegany Animal Hospital for 2 years, he joined the medical team at LaVale Veterinary Hospital in 1996. He and Dr. MacFawn formed a partnership in 2002.
Dr. Cosgrove is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, the D.C. Academy of Veterinary Medicine and the American Animal Hospital Association.
An avid football fan, Dr. Cosgrove especially enjoys rooting for his Alma Mater, Virginia Tech. GO HOKIES!
Dr. Jason Griffith
Dr. Jason Griffith is originally from Clarksburg, West Virginia. He attended Wheeling Jesuit University where he received his biology degree in 1993. He ran cross-country for three years there, was twice named and Academic All-American and is a member of the WJU Athletic Hall of Fame. He received his DVM from Ohio State University in 1997 and has been at LVH ever since.
Dr. Griffith and his wife, Mary Jane, are avid runners and triathletes working on a lifetime goal of competing in all 50 states. Besides running and caring for your pets, he remains busy keeping up with his three daughters’ activities, and cheering on his beloved WVU Mountaineers and Pittsburgh Steelers. His other favorite pastimes are reading, traveling, and fantasy football. Dr. Griffith has two dogs and a cat of his own.
Dr. Brigette McGhay-Cosgrove
Dr. Brigette McGhay-Cosgrove is a 1994 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She started her veterinary career at LaVale Veterinary Hospital following graduation. She has worked here for the last 24 years, taking time off to have children, explore emergency medicine, and get her MBA from Frostburg State University. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association. Dr. McGhay has a special interest in ultrasonography, as well as the business aspects of running LVH.
In her time off, she enjoys showing horses, as well as cheering for her children at their various sporting events, and volunteering at their school. She, along with her children and several staff members, visit a local nursing home several times a year with their pets. She also enjoys cheering for her alma mater, Virginia Tech!!!
Dr. Kelly Malec-McConnell
Dr. Kelly Malec received her degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech in 1999. She also completed coursework and participated in research on the subject of Equine Nutrition from 1999-2001. Dr. Malec graduated from the Virginia/Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She has a special interest in internal medicine.
Some of you may recognize her face because this is her hometown and Dr. Malec worked at LaVale Veterinary Hospital during the summer months of 1996-1999.
Dr. Malec enjoys spending time with her family and working at the barn with her horses, calves, goats and chickens.
Dr. Kristie Hensel-Wilhelm
Dr. Kristie Wilhelm is a 2007 graduate of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to that, she received her degree in Biology from Frostburg State University and also attended the University of Maryland while working at the United States Department of Agriculture. She is a member of the Maryland Veterinary Association. She enjoys playing volleyball and softball with her husband and spending time with their 2 dogs and 5 cats. Lately, she has been very busy with her young daughter and son, spending as much time with them as possible. Dr. Wilhelm and her husband also support the Virginia Tech Hokies!
Dr. Tessa Folk
Dr. Folk grew up in Garrett County, Maryland and is a graduate of Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. She received her DVM from the VA-MD College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2011. Dr. Folk worked as a technician at Lavale Veterinary Hospital for many summers prior to her graduation. She is especially interested in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. She is a member of AVMA, MVMA, and AAHA. In her time off, she likes to spend time with her family and her rescued pets, both cats and dogs.
Dr. Ainsley Raley
We are very happy to welcome Dr. Ainsley Raley to our staff. Dr. Raley is a Frostburg native and a graduate of Northern High School, Frostburg State University and a 2017 graduate of Virginia -Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (aka Virginia Tech). She enjoys outdoor activities including hiking and kayaking. She is a member of the AVMA and AAHA. We look forward to having increased availability and service to our clients and patients with a new doctor on staff, welcome Dr. Raley!
