High-Quality Treatment Options with Compassion

A cancer diagnosis can be both scary and heartbreaking. At LaVale Veterinary Hospital, we understand that your furry friends are hugely important to you and your family. Our veterinarians will treat your pet with the same care and compassion they would treat their own pets.

With the latest technology in chemotherapy, we can treat many forms of cancer, oftentimes successfully. If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, our veterinarians will help you understand your treatment options and provide insight as to which treatments might best benefit your pet. Our goal is to offer tailored care to preserve your pet’s quality of life.

If your pet has recently been diagnosed with cancer, please give us a call at (301) 273-1385 so we can help you understand your treatment options.

Chemotherapy at LaVale Veterinary Hospital

At its most basic, chemotherapy is the use of drugs to kill cancer cells. When we work with you and your pet to determine a treatment plan for your pet’s cancer diagnosis, our veterinarians in LaVale may recommend chemotherapy as part of your pet’s treatment protocol. Chemotherapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments. It can be administered in pill or injection form. While chemotherapy can be well tolerated by many pets, there may be some side effects from the administration of these drugs.

Side effects of chemotherapy can include:

  • Hair loss
  • Upset stomach
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Lethargy

While these side effects can be uncomfortable for both you and your pet, we can help treat the symptoms to ensure that your pet remains comfortable throughout their treatment process.

Pain Management & Palliative Care

There’s no reason for your pets to suffer from ongoing pain. We offer a variety of pain management services at LaVale Veterinary Hospital, ranging from traditional medications to cold laser therapy. Our veterinary team is highly trained in the art of pain management, so you can be sure that your pet maintains a good quality of life despite their pain.

Palliative care is used when the decision has been made to withdraw treatment for a terminal illness. If your pet is approaching the end of their life, our team can help ease the way for your pet, so that they can live their final days in peace and comfort.

We also offer end of life care at LaVale Veterinary Hospital. The decision to euthanize your pet is never easy, but it could be the kindest thing to do for a pet who is suffering. Our veterinarians will never pressure you. We will help you understand all your options. Ultimately, our goal is to help your pet live their best life, right until the end.

Our veterinarians will help you understand your options for your pet’s care. Call (301) 273-1385 to speak with one of our compassionate team of veterinarians.
